"afs" is based upon the principle that a human cell (or any living cell) always stays connected with the system it’s been taken from. If change occurs to either the system or the isolated cell, the other changes as well. This mechanism is known as the "Bell's Theorem", which says that two particles, even if separated, always remain in an identical state. This is also known as quantum entanglement. So, observing the first particle one receives full information on the state of the second independent of the distance between them (1 centimetre or 1 light year).
